Do you any new graduates looking for exciting technical roles
We take our certifications seriously by Annie Busalacki
As one of the leaders in IT service management, Unisys takes seriously its certifications and involvement in continuous improvement efforts across all business areas including security and quality. Below we discuss a few of these certifications and process improvement efforts.

FedRAMP

The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) is a government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. This shared risk assessment reduces cost and delay, providing understanding that a system is secure.

Unisys understands the current issues FedRAMP is facing, including lack of maturity and understanding in the IT community, system boundaries, time and expense. As one of three companies GSA hand-selected, Unisys is participating in the pilot program for the FedRAMP Accelerated Process Certification for Quality and Security. The goal of this program is to reduce authorization timeframes from the current range of six to 18 months down to less than six. As a trusted partner with FedRAMP, nurturing a relationship of two years, Unisys has been working to provide FedRAMP with honest and constructive feedback for the program. Upon completion of the testing timeframe, Unisys will have another approved system, and FedRAMP will have gained additional insight to aid in the ultimate goal of a ‘certify once, use many times’ system. Unisys is proud to partner with FedRAMP in this capacity, and we will continue to develop our relationship with them to increase federal security.

CMMI

Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a process improvement maturity model for the development of products and services. It consists of best practices that address development and maintenance activities, covering the product lifecycle from conception through delivery and maintenance.

Application Modernization and Outsourcing Services (AMOS) Group 1, a self-defined sub-organization of Unisys Federal, was recently appraised at Maturity Level 3 against the CMMI for Development model. The Standard CMMI Appraisal for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) appraisal was conducted in February 2016 by an independent CMMI Lead Appraiser, and the appraisal team was comprised of trained Unisys personnel. This is the third successful appraisal for the sub-organization; the first appraisal was conducted in April of 2010 when the organization first achieved a Maturity Level 3 rating and the second was conducted in March of 2013. Appraisal ratings are good for 3 years after which an organization must be re-appraised to maintain its maturity level rating

Benefits of CMMI include linking an organization’s activities directly to business objectives and increased visibility into an organization's activities to help ensure that products or services meet the customer's expectations. This Maturity Level 3 achievement is a significant accomplishment that positions Unisys Federal to successfully compete in the federal marketplace as many government agencies recognize the value of CMMI and typically require a minimum Maturity Level 3 rating to respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

ISO

Unisys understands and values the importance of delivering cost effective and integrated processes. The International Organizational Standard (ISO) provides us with a set of standardized requirements and best practices for IT service management (ITSM) to help aid in this delivery. Unisys Federal retained their certification for the ISO/IEC 20000 Service Management in November 2015 on the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) Desktop Management Initiative (DMI) III contract, IRS Enterprise Storage Services (ESS) and Unisys Business framework. Aligning with ITIL guidelines, ISO 20000 is the world’s first international standard for IT Service Management. ISO defines the requirements for a service provider to deliver managed services and describes detailed best practices specifying five key service management processes: Service Delivery, Control, Resolution, Relationship, and Control. Because Unisys is dedicated in delivering excellence, this accreditation is an advantage to us in the federal IT arena. Some of the many benefits of having the ISO 20000-1 certification include reduction in incidents and improved incident management, adoption of an integrated process to the delivery of IT services, reduction in response times and interruptions to IT service, and improved management of cost leading to financial savings.
