Each quarter, Unisys recognizes innovative thinking that addresses technical challenges our clients face today. Our teams utilize their expert knowledge to improve processes, customer service, and/or product design to improve client outcomes.
Our first contest winner is our Customs and Border Protection (CBP) team. Using Agile Scrum methodology the team created an application called the Biometric Feedback Monitor (BFM) which enables CBP Officers to compare a live captured photo image of the traveler to the image stored on the e-Passport chip. The CBP Officers now use this intelligence to assist him/her during the admissibility process for travelers entering the U.S.
This project was the first of its kind by our client, CBP to biometrically confirm U.S. citizen’s entry into the U.S. by using only the photo that is stored on the U.S. passport, and comparing it to a live captured image of the traveler. Biometric Feedback Monitor (BFM) has been used to process roughly 200,000 travelers entering the U.S. and prevented a credible number of imposters from entering the U.S.
“This biometric capability will aid our officers in identifying legitimate travelers while protecting them from fraud and identity theft with little to no delay to the entry process,” Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, R. Gil Kerlikowske said.
